Howdy,

Well here I am, sitting in the reception room of the enemy encampment (BLM) outside of Battle Mountain, NV. They have no idea the danger they have in their midst. Heee, heee.

I went in to see the Judge on Tuesday so we are now officially divorced. I hopped in Little Red my Micro Mini Motor home and charged out of town. It was good to be back out on the road. It is a long road and will be interesting to see where it goes.

I got to Big Timber the first night out and had supper with Sam and his girlfriend Jacki. Jacki is wonderful and I hope Sam can get a rope on her and keep her. Susan says that she is going to adopt her if he doesn’t marry her. I bet she would make a better wife for Sam than another sister, he’s got plenty of them already and they can be real grief at times.J I stayed in Sam’s little house. The wind blew hard all night but his house is just a snug as can be. Sam has done a really nice job of fixing it up.

While leaving Big Timber I just had to snap this photo of the new sheep they are raising around there. Since the wolf recovery program has been so wildly successful it has been hard to keep the red-blooded woolies from becoming warm meals for the wolf packs. This new breed of ‘hardware sheep’ should solve the problem. Welded chain and steel plate.

The wind just howled on the way to Livingston, but seemed to calm down on the other side of the pass. Bozeman was busy as usual even in the winter it is hard to find a parking place on Main. I looked in a few shops for a pair of hiking boots, but wasn’t impressed with anything I found less than $200. I will keep looking and may end up just using the ones I have, as they are not totally worn out yet. I made it to Mikes around sundown. Mike was just finishing up work for the day of trimming out one of the cabins and staining a door. He had a White Tail venison roast on the stove and added some carrots and potatoes which were done after a few beers. I got to pet Lucky, his black lab. Lucky really likes pets and he is just as hard as an anvil. He is a working BIRD dog.

I charged out of Dirty Mikes camp just before noon after helping him make a town run to pickup cabinets for one of his cabins he has almost ready to rent. These cabins are not far from Dillon will have facilities for keeping horses. It was balmy at Mikes and I think the overnight temp was 28 above.

The road south got snow covered and a sheet of ice by the time I got into Idaho. That little Subaru just drives like it is on tracks. The only time I have had to put it in 4x4 is when I got into Wells, NV and took what I thought was a road into a parking lot. It looked like people had been driving there but it turned out it was snowmobiles. I spent the night in Wells and by morning it was very cold. I don’t know the exact temp but I am pretty sure it was –10 or colder. The windows were a sheet of ice inside the car, from my breath. I had to scrape the ice on  the inside to see, the outside was fine. The little car started right up. It still has that  little miss when it gets cold. Sooner or later, hopefully sooner, it will warm up and I wont have to deal with that.

 Sunrise in NV.

Observation: there are a lot of people wandering around here visiting and just plain loafing. On my $$ I might add. Public servants my ass, they are public goof offs. The room is nice and warm and the couch is very comfy however.J I guess I am getting some of the benefits of BLM mismanagement.

I talked with a deputy at the service station and he said it was –9 this morning here.

I am in this enemy camp with my computer plugged in because at ten below the battery wouldn’t keep the computer running and would just shut it down. When batteries get cold, they quit working. At the moment I cant find the inverter that I run off the car battery. When I repack I will be sure to get it in a more  readily accessible location.

I head south from here and will try to get into the hot spring near Austin. I hope the snow isn’t too deep or I don’t get stuck out there. I do have enough food for several days with me, so even if I do have to stay out there, I will be ok. Actually a week at the hot spring doesn’t sound too bad. So if you don’t’ hear from me for a while, I will be pruned out at the hot spring.

Cheers, Rx

P.S. if you hit the reply button, please delete my letter or at least the photos. I would love to hear from you.
